The English National Surfing Championships are one of the UK’s longest-running surfing competitions. The Championships are taking place at Watergate Bay over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The waves of Watergate Bay will decide national surfing champions over the Early May bank holiday weekend in the 2012 Extreme Academy English National Surfing Championships. In a new development for the 40th edition of the competition, just three divisions will be contested in a single day of competition, with surfing taking place from early morning through to completion. Organisers will be able to pick the best day from a window running from 5th of May to 7th of May to ensure that the competition takes place in the best surfing conditions.

Traditionally a fishing port, Padstow Cornwall is now a popular tourist destination. Although some of its former fishing fleet remains, it is mainly a yachting haven on a dramatic coastline with few easily navigable harbours.
